Emmerdale’s 50th Anniversary Cake

50th Anniversary TV Trailer

Emmerdale, one of the long-running British soap operas, is celebrating its 50th anniversary this October with a dramatic teaser trailer incorporating the latest in 3D printing technology, motion-control camera shots and a real cake!

Brief

Celebrating the 50th Anniversary of one of the long-running British soap operas, the art director's vision was to create an edible miniature set of the drama series including the famous Woolpack pub, the woods and many iconic scenes.

Collaborating with ITV's creative team—including the art director, producer, and set specialists—the goal was to produce an epic trailer that generated excitement for the special anniversary episodes.

Creation

This impressive set was carved from layers of vanilla sponge cake, meticulously covered in fondant, and then brought to life with vibrant colors. Michelle cleverly used chocolate flakes to create the trees, rice crispy cereal for realistic texture, and shredded wheat to mimic a stack of hay bales.

The cake took approximately 150 hours to create in Michelle's studio. Afterwards, this intricate creation endured a five-hour journey to the legendary Emmerdale Studio in Yorkshire.
